Manama, Sept. 4. (BNA) – Minister of State for Information Affairs and the Official Spokesperson of the Government Sameera Ebrahim bin Rajab received here today the Chairman of the Arab Human Rights Committee (AHRC) Dr. Hadi bin Ali Al-yami and his accompanying delegation, currently on a visit to the kingdom to take part in a workshop on the Arab Human Rights Charter and the AHRC’s work mechanism, hosted by Bahrain from September 1 to 4.
The Minister lauded the good efforts exerted by the Arab Human Rights Committee to foster human rights principles across the Arab World.
She underscored the kingdom’s pioneering and leading experience in protecting and respecting human rights, noting that under His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s leadership, Bahrain has passed many laws that guarantee the rights of the citizens and residents, according to the highest international standards.
The meeting also touched upon a number of issues, particularly the recommendations made by the Human Rights Committee in its recent report regarding press and media.
In this context, the Minister of State for Information Affairs highlighted the draft Information and Communication Law, stressing that it is an advanced one that regulates printed and electronic press, as well as the audio-visual media in the kingdom.
She pointed out that the draft law supports freedoms of press, expression and opinion and ensures transparent and easy access to the sources of information.
She said that the High Authority for Information and Communication (HAIC) is an independent entity that sets professional standards and follows up on media affairs in the kingdom.
The Chairman of the Arab Human Rights Committee lauded the efforts made the kingdom in the field of human rights, citing His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s initiative to establish the Arab Court for Human Rights.
