Manama, March 16 (BNA)– A top government official firmly condemned the Iraqi Prime Minister’s accusations of Saudi Arabia of supporting terrorism. State Minister for Information Affairs Samira Ibrahim bin Rajab, the government official Spokesperson, dismissed the accusations as untrue and baseless, stressing that the cabinet’s denunciation of those allegations represent Bahrain’s official stance which is no different from other GCC countries’.
Speaking at a press conference following the cabinet meeting today, the minister expressed hope all differences between the GCC countries will be solved amicably and as soon as possible. She added that no precise information is currently available on a Kuwaiti mediation following withdrawal of some GCC countries of their ambassadors from Doha.
Concerning the government’s tendency to challenge the constitutionality of procedures to quiz the Finance Minister under the parliamentary dome, she explained that the subject is being handled according to the constitutional norms between the executive and legislative powers.
Regarding a visit by the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture to Bahrain, she revealed that the visit was not cancelled but it was rather postponed to meet the UN official’s schedule. The Foreign Minister informed the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights about the decision, she pointed out.
Concerning a proposal submitted by Bahrain to the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) on protecting children’s rights and preventing exploiting them in terrorism, armed conflicts and demonstrations, the State Minister for Information Affairs said the proposal, which was approved by the Arabian group, will undergo its natural course at the IPU until it changes into decisions and recommendations to be enforced in reality by the UN member states.
She added that Bahrain has a Child Law in addition to its adherence to international covenants in this respect. Yet, some people are exploiting children in breach of their rights which are a main component of human rights. “It is unjust to engage the innocent in the cauldron of violence and terrorism,” she emphasised, adding that violence and terrorism will be faced with the rule of law to protect people in Bahrain from those who are trying to impose their agendas on them.
