DUBAI: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) launched on Thursday the Strategy Pioneers initiative at Madinat Jumeirah in collaboration with Hall of Fame organisations for implementing their strategies in the region.
Organisations that entered the Hall of Fame participated in the event as founding members. These included the Dubai Executive Council, Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, Dubai Aluminium (Dubal), Bahrain Electricity and Water Authority, and the Bahrain Ministry of Works.
“This initiative supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. We see this as an inspiration to achieve the goals of the UAE and our leadership,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa.
“This initiative will serve as a platform for knowledge partnership and to exchange information, experience, international best practices, administrative updates in strategy planning, and to develop strategic planning systems. It will also enable strategic management in government, semi-government and private organisations in the region.
“This initiative promotes efficient management systems by bringing together the Hall of Fame Award winners to share their knowledge and international best practices for continuous improvement, sustaining achievements and promoting a strategy-focused culture to achieve results,” said Al Tayer.
“Dewa started to position itself for excellence through several key phases: establishment, followed by development and improvement, and then comprehensive quality phases supported by the efforts of the Dubai Government Excellence Programme. In 2000, Dewa began to apply the Balanced Scorecard system as part of its strategy planning mechanism and strategy implementation and management. Dewa achieved the Hall of Fame Award in 2008 for executing strategy and actively continues to implement the principles of a strategy-focused organisation. That leadership translates corporate strategies into operational terms, aligning and cascading them to every employee, making strategy an everyday job for everyone and last but not least, making it a continuous process,” continued Al Tayer.
“We lead the region in the application of the third generation of Balanced Scorecard and the application of the principles of strategic organisation. We entered the Hall of Fame in strategic planning in 2008 for the implementation of the strategy. Dewa continues to effectively apply the principles of the Strategy-Focused Organisation: from the support and commitment of senior leadership to the planning and implementation of strategy. We harmonise the Strategic Plan with the operational plans of the divisions that implement strategy,” concluded Al Tayer.
The event concluded with founder members of the Strategy Pioneers initiative signing a partnership agreement.
The initiative will include an annual workshop and regular meetings, where member companies will meet to review corporate strategy, strategic planning, implementation, and key achievements.
