Manama, Jan. 19 (BNA)— The Supreme Coordination Committee for Human Rights held its third meeting today under the chairmanship of Human Rights Minister Dr. Salah bin Ali Abdulrahman.
The minister welcomed the committee members, hailing their great national efforts to project Bahrain’s honourable human rights record.
He was also updated through reports by the members on the government’s progress in implementing endorsed recommendations at the recent Human Rights Council’s meeting in Geneva.
He lauded the fast-paced implementation of the recommendations which reflects great keenness by all to uphold the bright image of Bahrain in its democratic and human rights process and debunk fallacies aimed at distorting the truth.
He discussed the committee’s work plan in carrying out the recommendations according to fixed deadlines.
He stressed immediate implementation of the recommendations is a commitment for the government as Bahrain has always pledged to defend legitimate and constitutional rights and freedoms.
He asserted that Bahrain is the land of dignity, freedom and social justice and that the implementation of the recommendations is based on the kingdom’s constitution and law.
The committee continued to review the recommendations which have been fully or partly approved by Bahrain as well as the main chapters of the national human rights scheme.
It agreed to set up a mini-committee to study Geneva’s recommendations and the national scheme and submit visions to the Supreme Committee’s next meeting.
