DOHA: A student delegation from Stenden University Qatar (SUQ) to the 11th Bahrain Universities Model United Nations (BUMUN) was awarded the Diplomacy Award for Best Delegate.
They were selected from among teams from 29 universities from Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Palestine, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Libya.
SUQ students debated topics such as cyber warfare, violence against women, nuclear energy/crisis and climate change.
Respect and cooperation were the fundamentals of the debates and the delegates were acquainted with diplomacy and international issues.
The annual event was held under the patronage of Bahraini Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairperson Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The opening event began with a speech by Bahraini’s Assistant Foreign Minister Abdullah Al Dossari who stressed the need to encourage delegates to make the world a better place.
SUQ team included Vignesh Venkataraman, Shivi Mishra, Mohammed Soheil Zantout, Hazel Tellis and Coach Darine Chaaya.
They represented Kuwait and Canada at the General Assembly Committee, Canada at the Economic and Social Council Committee (ECOSOC) and Kuwait for the International Atomic and energy Agency (IAEA).
