Suspect remanded in custody

Manama, Nov. 12 (BNA): Bahrain’s Public Prosecutor Ahmed Al-Qorashi today announced that the trial of an individual charged with inciting hatred and promoting political change using forceful means resumed today at the Higher Criminal Court.

During the trial, the Court heard from the prosecution witnesses in the presence of the defendant and his legal team.

The Public Prosecution requested that the defendant be convicted of all charges in view of the evidence that was presented to Court.

The individual’s trial follows a Public Prosecution statement that confirmed it had investigated a complaint put forward by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation.

The complaint stated that the alleged offences occurred shortly after the individual was released from prison, following a Royal Pardon. Upon his release, the defendant pledged to comply fully with the law, however he has failed to do so.

The Higher Criminal Court set the next date of trial to 15 December 2015, where the defence team will present its case.

Mr. Al-Qorashi confirmed that the defendant will be further remanded in custody and that he has been afforded full legal rights and provided with the opportunity to meet with his legal team throughout.
