Rameswaram:  A fisherman from Tamil Nadu, who was working in Bahrain on contract basis, was shot dead allegedly by Qatar naval personnel while he was fishing in that nation’s waters, a top police officer said in Rameswaram yesterday.

The naval personnel also arrested three other Tamil Nadu natives, who along with the deceased were fishing in Qatar waters after crossing Bahrain’s International Maritime Boundary Line.

Karthikeyan (32) from Tirupalikdi village in Ramanthapuram district was shot dead while his three friends were arrested by the naval personnel last night, ‘Q’ branch Inspector Kennedy said in Rameswaram.

His body has been kept at a hospital in Qatar, he said.

The four had gone to Bahrain in February 2014 for fishing on contract basis.

He said Karthikeyan’s family members would meet the District Collector today to seek his help in getting back the body.
