Three Bahrain-based Indian fishermen, detained in Qatar for illegally entering the country’s territorial waters, were freed on Monday, according to an Indian embassy official in Doha.
The fishermen will be allowed to leave Qatar for Bahrain after the completion of the deportation formalities. Qatar Coast Guards had arrested a group of seven Indian fishermen on July 5 for straying into Qatari waters. Later they were referred to a Doha court.
Four of them were released last week. Allowed to go back to Bahrain on completion of necessary formalities, they left Qatar for Bahrain with their boats on Monday.
The court had sentenced the other three – Fallan, Pradeep and Sahaya Sojin – to 42 days of detention from the date of arrest. They completed the jail term on Sunday and are to be sent back to Bahrain on completion of necessary deportation formalities within the next three to four days.
Their sponsor is also following up the matter with the local authorities for their early deportation. Of these seven fishermen, six are from Tamil Nadu and one from Kerala.
