TRA participates in the 22nd Ministerial GCC Telecommunications, Information … – WAM

WAM ABU DHABI, 11th September, 2013 (WAM) — The UAE, represented by a delegation headed by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, TRA, has participated in the twenty-second GCC Telecommunications, Information Technology and Post Ministers Committee meeting that took place in Bahrain on Wednesday, September 4th, under the patronage of Bahrain’s Minister of State for Telecommunications Affairs.

The UAE delegation was headed by Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of the TRA, and included Abdullah Al Ashram, CEO of Emirates Post and engineer Nasser Bin Hammad, Director of International Affairs at the TRA in addition to a number of official representatives.

During the session it was agreed that an awareness week for express mail services in GCC countries will be organized. Running alongside that, the ministers also agreed to establish the necessary processes to ensure the successful delivery of a Gulf Express service,” said Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim.

Ahead of the 2014 International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference in Republic of Korea later this year, representatives from the Kingdom of Bahrain confirmed support to the UAE as it seeks membership of the council as well as membership of the Radio Regulation Board between 2014 and 2018.

Another topic discussed was around the decision to form a work group headed by the UAE TRA to address the issue of legislation and regulation of services provided through the Internet in GCC countries.

“We are glad to be part of this meeting which contributes to strengthening cooperation with our brothers in the GCC countries in order to drive sustainable development in the Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology sectors in the region”, added Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim.

He also expressed his thanks to the Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by the Minister of State for Telecommunications Affairs, for their warm reception and hospitality in addition to the General Secretariat for organising the meeting.
