Traditional supper for Chelsea Pensioners…

THREE British war veterans enjoyed a traditional fish and chips supper as part of their visit to Bahrain.

Simon de Buisseret, Barry Prior and Albert Willis, known as the “Chelsea Pensioners” because of their accommodation at London’s Royal Hospital Chelsea, will be in Bahrain until Tuesday.

Their visit, which takes place every year, is organised by the Bahrain British Business Forum and marks Armistice Day, which is when the First World War ended at 11am on November 11, 1918.

The veterans have a busy schedule of events lined up during their stay in the kingdom. They will meet British Ambassador Iain Lindsay, visit the Tree of Life and attend the annual Poppy Ball, taking place tonight at the Crowne Plaza Bahrain.

After taking a tour of Bahrain International Circuit yesterday, they were treated to the fish and chips supper at the British Club.

The veterans are also due to take part in Remembrance Day ceremonies at St Christopher’s Cathedral on Sunday and a wreath-laying service at the Old Christian Cemetery on November 11 at 11am.
