MUSCAT — The national workshop for the training of national cadres on world heritage concepts and mechanisms of the World Heritage Committee started yesterday at Crowne Plaza Hotel. The workshop is organised by the Heritage and Culture Ministry in co-operation with Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH) in Bahrain, and ICCROM Regional Centre in Sharjah.
The 4-day workshop aims to highlight the basic principles of the agreement, the guidelines, the universal value and special instructions for the preparation of preliminary lists, in addition to setting models for preliminary list components and site management and focus on practical experiences for the world heritage sites in the Sultanate.
The workshop, which involved 20 participants, also aims at establishing a new generation of scientific competent cadre, capacity development in the field of the conservation, rehabilitation and protection of world heritage sites. The ARC-WH seeks to support and implement the World Heritage Intergovernmental Agreement in the Arab countries for the protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage sites. — ONA
