The first of a two-day seminar on scientific research got underway yesterday at Rami Grand Hotel in Seef with more than 150 academics and researchers in the fields of sports management, sports medicine and sports training from Bahrain and other Arab countries in attendance.
It is organised by Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Scientific Research Awards in the field of sports.
It is being held for the third successive year under the patronage of His Majesty the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
One of the main objectives of the seminar is to highlight the importance of scientific research in developing the sports movement in the Arab world.
Yesterday’s programme started with opening remarks by Dr Abdulrahman Sayyar, the general secretary of the award, who welcomed the participants and noted that scientific research is a strategic choice for the development of the sports movement.
Later on vice-president of Jordan Olympic Committee Dr Sari Ahmed Hamdan spoke on the challenges of scientific research in the field of sports.

It was followed by a presentation on scientific research in sports medicine and sports science in the Arab world by professor and director of Pediatric Exercise Physiology Research Laboratory, King Saud University in Saudi Arabia, Dr Hazaa bin Mohammed Al Hazzaa.
Later, Dr Mohammed Bu Daina of the department of physics at the University of Bahrain talked about applying nanotechnology in the field of sports.
Among those attending yesterday’s inauguration of the seminar was Bahrain Olympic Committee board member and president of Bahrain Football Association Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.
The seminar concludes today with three more sessions to be presented by Dr Mohammed Bu Hiji of Bahrain, Dr Ahmed Al Shareef of the UAE and Dr Mohammed Hassanein of Egypt.
