UK pledges support

MANAMA: Britain reiterated its support for Bahrain’s reform programme yesterday as a top visiting official held key talks.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa Hugh Robertson met Bahrain’s leadership and also attended a UK-Bahrain Joint Working Group meeting.

“During a productive meeting, we agreed that the UK would continue to provide support to Bahrain’s reform programme, with particular focus on strengthening human rights and the rule of law,” he said in a statement.

The group was set up in March last year to discuss issues of mutual interest.
