Verma clinches trophy in style

Manama: India and Malaysia claimed the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively as the Victor-Rayan Sports Bahrain International Series 2015 badminton event came to a close last night at the Shaikh Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town.

Top-seeded Sameer Verma of India outplayed countryman Pratul Joshi 21-13, 18-21, 21-8 in the final to clinch the men’s singles crown.

Malaysia’s Li Lian Yang continued her giant-killing run by stunning No 2 seed Saili Rane of India 21-19, 21-17 in the final to capture the women’s singles title.

The Indian pair of S Poorvisha Ram and Arathi Sara Sunil scored a 21-14, 21-8 win over Pakistanis Palwasha Bashir and Sara Mohmand to take the women’s doubles trophy.

Malaysia won the mixed doubles crown as Yip Jiun Tan and Li Lian Yang eased past Artyom Savatyugin of Uzbekhistan and Alesia Zaitsava of Belarus 21-17, 21-10.

Malaysia completed their trio of titles after the pairing of Wee Tat Tan and Yip Jiun Tan defeated countrymen Pak Chu Chow and Kay Ee Yeoh 18-21, 21-11, 21-16 in the men’s doubles final.

The excitement and action at the Victor-Rayan Sports Bahrain International Series 2015 event may be over but it is not the end of top-class badminton in Bahrain.

The Bahrain International Challenge 2015 event will start tomorrow at the same venue. More than 150 players from 32 countries are taking part in the competition.

The Victor-Rayan Sports Bahrain International Series 2015 event is title sponsored by Victor-Rayan Sports, with the Mashtan Hotel and boomzbahrain.com supporting the Bahrain International Badminton Festival 2015 as official hotel and online media partners, respectively.
