A BAHRAINI woman was killed and her husband critically injured yesterday after their car crashed in Saudi Arabia.
Lanna Mohammed Meyas, 21, was with her husband, a family member and child when the accident happened at 5am in Al Nuaireia in the Eastern Province.
The husband, who was driving, was taken to hospital along with the relative, but it is understood the child escaped unharmed.
However, no more information was available.
The Bahrain Embassy in Riyadh is working with Saudi and Bahraini authorities to repatriate the body of Ms Meyas to Manama today.
“She died in an accident at around 5am in Al Nuaireia,” said an embassy official.
“The husband and passenger are in serious condition and are currently being treated in a Saudi hospital. The child was not injured.
“We are investigating the crash to determine who is at fault and also what they were all doing in Saudi.”
Ms Meyas has become the eighth reported Bahraini to have died on Saudi roads since the start of the year.
The worst accident happened in January when a family of five were killed whilst driving from Mecca to Medina.
The GDN reported that the driver lost control and crashed into a metal barrier at speed.
