Women’s Games panel hold its first meeting

THE Co-ordination and Follow-up Committee of the Third GCC Women’s Games, to be hosted by Bahrain in March next year, held its first meeting on Saturday to review arrangements being made for the forthcoming event.

Executive Committee chairwomen and Bahrain Olympic Committee member Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa welcomed the committee members attending the meeting.

Shaikha Hayat noted the support this event has received from Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Saikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

She also highlighted the role of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and Supreme Council for Women President, in backing women’s sports activities in the kingdom.

Dr Aysha Al Amer chaired the meeting attended by members Fawzia Al Yousefi (Kuwait), Laila Suhail (UAE), Suad Al Ismaili (Oman) and Lulwa Al Marri (Qatar).

Satisfied

They also visited a number of stadiums and sports gyms that will host the Games and were satisfied with the overall preparations being made for the event.

They also praised the electronic registration system available on the official website which is maintained by BOC Media and Archive Department representative Mohammed Al Belooshi.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Al Zayed was named secretary of the Co-ordination and Follow-Up Committee, in addition to his duties as a staff member at the BOC International Affairs Department.

Meanwhile, Shaikha Hayat will head to Abu Dhabi today to attend the honouring ceremony of Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of General Women Union and Supreme Chairperson of Family Development Foundation.

Shaikha Fatima was selected to the board of International Olympic Committee in 2012 in recognition of her efforts to support women’s sport and the development of women in general.

Shaikha Hayat will then travel to Doha to attend the 15th meeting of the Women’s GCC Organising Committee on Thursday when several topics related to women’s sports in the Gulf region will be discussed. One of the issues will be the timetable of all the games of the Third Women’s GCC Games to be held in Bahrain in March next year.

Shaikha Hayat will also go to Sharjah to chair the preparatory meeting of the Second Arab Women’s Club Games to be held there on Saturday. She will be accompanied by International Relations Executive Co-ordinator at BOC Mohammed Hassan Al Zayed.
