Many of triathlons most talked-about athletes in 2015 come from the Bahrain Endurance Team. Members Jan Frodeno and Daniela Ryf took the Kona titles last year and Brent McMahon, currently the sole Canadian on the team, placed ninth as a Kona pro rookie. He also placed 2nd at Ironman Arizona in November.

After a year of making history and racking up podium finishes at triathlon’s major long distance races, the Bahrain Endurance Team has earned worldwide recognition from several countries’ sports organizations and triathlon publications.

In one of the greatest years ever for a triathlete, Switzerland’s Daniela Ryf made history earning the sport’s first million-dollar pay day  undefeated in every race she entered. She was awarded Sportswoman of the Year at the Credit Suisse Sports Awards. Even before her Nasser Bin Hamad Triple Crown series win, she had already been named Athlete of the Year at the Swiss Triathlon Awards.

Jan Frodeno also made history last year as the first triathlete to win Ironman 70.3 World Championships, Kona and an Olympic gold metal (Beijing 2008). He became the first triathlete to be awarded Sportsman of the Year at the Sportler des Jahres gala night, in a vote conducted among 3,000 of Germany’s sports journalists.

Both Ryf and Frodeno have been name Triathlete of the Year by multiple triathlon magazines.

“The awards were great, simply because they move our sport into the forefront of people’s mind,” said Frodeno. “Triathlon is a young sport that’s growing all the time, so to get some mainstream recognition is pretty epic!”

The Bahrain Endurance Team now has an unmatched feat of the dozens of podium finishes and course records achieved by its inaugural roster and is the first team of its kind in the sport.
