‘Action taken against Kuwaiti MP’

KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry has taken adequate legal action against an MP for issuing defamatory statements against Bahrain.

Ministry Under-Secretary Khalid Al Jarallah made the statement to the Press on the sidelines of a reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy marking the annual celebration of the establishment of People’s Republic of China.

Expressing regret over such statements, Al Jarallah stressed that ‘any affront to our brothers in Bahrain is an affront to Kuwait’.

‘We received a notification of protest from our brothers in Bahrain, which prompted us to take legal measures in this regard,’ he said.

Earlier, it was reported that Kuwait was planning to sue MP Abdul Hamid Dashti for making offensive statements against Bahrain and its leadership and jeopardising Kuwait’s foreign relations.

The Cabinet had assigned Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Shaikh Mohammed Al Khalid to co-ordinate with the foreign ministry regarding appropriate action to be taken against the MP for his comments.
