Afghanistan go top in Group B

KATHMANDU, MAR 29 –

Afghanistan replaced UAE at the top of Group B of the ACC Twenty20 Cup following their 72-run victory against Bahrain at the Pulchowk Engineering Campus on Thursday.

Both Afghanistan and UAE are level on four points, but the former lead on Net Run Rate.

Sent in to bat, Afghanistan accumulated a decent total of 157 runs losing five wickets with the help of 83-run stand between Gulbadin Naib and Najjbullah Zadran (45).

Bahrain bowlers were unable to implement significant pressure on their opponents and their batting department showed more sloppy scenario as they were dismissed for 85 runs in 15.5 overs. Player of the match Naib, who had earlier contributed 46 runs for Afghanistan, once again tormented Bahrain as he took four wickets and finished with figures 4-0-23-4.

Meanwhile, Malaysia beat Singapore by six wickets in the Group A match held at Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.

CR Kumarage thumped 47 runs in his 25-ball stay while AE Param added 44 runs for Singapore to register an intimidating total of 171 runs losing six wickets. In reply, Malaysia accomplished their 172 runs target within 18 overs as Suhan Kumar smashed 70 runs and combined a 75-run partnership with KH Durrani (30). Even though with the win, Malaysia are in the second last position in Group A.
