Manama: Dec. 9 — (BNA) Aluminum Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba) combined its role as a responsible corporate entity along its passion for athletic sports by offering its support to the American Women’s Association (AWA)’s Cherry Tree Trot 2012, which took place on Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC).

Cherry Tree Trot is a biennial event organized to raise funds for various charities in Bahrain that support the physically and mentally challenged. Its goal is to involve them in the race with volunteers available to push wheelchairs as well as running or walking alongside the visually challenged athletes.

Alba’s Chief Support Functions Officer, Basem Al-Sharqi met the Cherry Tree Trot 2012 Committee Chairperson Laila Husain to confirm Alba’s sponsorship of the event.

Also present on the occasion was Tosin Arowjolu, AWA President, Susanne Chabara, Corporate Sponsorship Manager as well as Rawdha Al-Aradi Alba’s Acting Training Recruitment Manager.

Commenting on Alba’s sponsorship of Cherry Tree Trot 2012, Alba’s Chief Support Functions Officer, Basem Al-Sharqi said:-

“For over 30 years, the Cherry Tree Trot charity run has played a significant role in Bahrain’s sporting and social scene. It has helped allocate much needed funds for organizations that help the physically and mentally challenged as well as providing an eagerly awaited day-out for the entire family. Alba is keen to support such initiatives as it contributes to the betterment of society and in spreading happiness to those who richly deserve it.”

Cherry Tree Trot was first started in 1981 to raise funds for AWA’s welfare activities especially those involving the physically and mentally challenged. As the scope of its activities grew, it became a biennial event and in 2006 the Bahrain International Circuit became the main venue.
