Aluminium Bahrain said its second quarter production levels rose by 3.1% despite difficult market conditions this year.
The company’s output for Q2 2015 was 238,904 tonnes, as compared to its Q2 2014 figures of 231,713 tonnes.
Sales increased by 2,383 tonnes as compared to Q2 2014.
Aluminium Bahrain owns one of the world’s largest smelters of lightweight metal.
The company won government approval for a $3.5bn expansion in June 2015. The planned project is expected to boost the company’s output by at least 50%.
Increased output from China has strained global aluminium prices, and global aluminium producers, including United Company Rusal and Alcoa, have had to reorganise their capacities in order to manage the heightened supply.
Aluminium Bahrain will release its full results on 29 July, 2015, newswire Reuters reported.
