I was interested to read about Bahrain Yacht Club (GDN May 24). So, once again this great asset to the community is being threatened. I was a member of the committee in the 1980’s when the club was threatened with closure – when an influential resident decided to build his new palace over the access channel. But the club members pulled together and raised over one hundred thousand dinars to dredge a new channel and even had a surplus to build a swimming pool as well.

In the same way, as the club was started by members investing in the facility and working together, it is the right time to repeat this. Obviously the success of the club has inspired certain people to make it an easy target. As in 1988, an approach must be made for a just and fair solution.
