Court overturns conviction of 21 medics

MANAMA, Bahrain, March 29 (UPI) — Convictions of 21 medical workers for their involvement in 2011 uprisings in Bahrain have been overturned by the country’s court of appeals.

The medics were among 28 convicted in November of taking part in unlicensed assemblies and violation of the law by treating protesters involved in demonstrations against the government, Albawaba News reported Thursday.

Earlier charges had been dropped for “theoretically clashing with the exercise of freedom of expression,” the public prosecutor said.

Five other medics were acquitted during the November trials. Two medics could not appeal.
