MANAMA: Bahrain’s agriculture sector is ripe for investment.

This was the message to the business community from the ninth Bahrain International Garden Show which opened yesterday at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and president of the Supreme Council for Women and National Initiative for Agriculture Development, officially inaugurated the show which runs until Saturday.

Princess Sabeeka affirmed the importance of investing in agriculture as it promises high returns while helping the kingdom achieve self-sufficiency.

She underscored the significance of food security and the need to use modern technology in agriculture to ensure it.

She also expressed her hopes at seeing more Bahraini companies investing in the sector in order to support agriculture in the kingdom.

Princess Sabeeka thanked United Nations Industrial Development Organisation director-general Dr Kandeh K Yumkella for attending the opening ceremony and for his support through participating in the event.

She also distributed awards to the winners of the Bahrain Garden Club and Ministry of Education competition.

Princess Sabeeka then visited the various stalls at the exhibition.
