ISLAMABAD – Pakistan U-14 team started their Qatar Asian Tennis U-14 team cup campaign on a winning note as they beat Bahrain 2-1 in the first round on Sunday.
Kamran Khalil, captain/head coach of Pakistan team revealed that Dawer Rehan beat Hamid of Bahrain 6-0, 6-0 to give 1-0 lead. Nofil Kaleem beaten by Bahrain No 1 player Ahmed 3-6, 4-6, said Kamran. In the deciding doubles, Dawer/Abdal pair beat Hamid/Ahmed 6-1, 6-1 to register 2-1 win against Bahrain.
The Pakistan U-14 team led by coach/captain Kamran Khalil comprising Nofil Kaleem, Dawer Rehan, Abdal Hyder and Muzammil Murtaza. Eight Asian teams Pakistan, two teams of hosts Qatar, Bahrain, Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Lebanon and Kuwait are competing in the event.
Pakistan is placed in Group B along with Iran, Qatar 1 and Bahrain. President PTF Dr Syed Kaleem Imam is in Qatar and witnessed the opening day matches. Kaleem Imam appreciated the team performance and hoped that Pakistan would win the event.
