AFC executive committee backs Shaikh Salman’s Fifa presidency bid

New Delhi, Nov. 27 (BNA): The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) unanimously backed the bid of its president Bahrain’s Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa to become the new FIFA President

This came as the executive committee of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) held its meeting here today.

Members of the committee voiced confidence in Shaikh Salman’s ability to lead the world football governing body -FIFA.

The executive committee passed a resolution urging all member associations to unite behind and support the AFC President Shaikh Salman.

Meanwhile, Shaikh Salman expressed delight in the backing of AFC executive committee members, stressing that the unanimous support he had received “sends a strong message that Asia is behind one candidate.”

It is to be noted that 49 of the 209 voting federations in the February 26 elections to decide Sepp Blatter’s successor are Asian.
