Bahrain: GNT Sri Lanka ease past BMMI Dilmun C

Manama: Gnt Sri Lanka overcame BMMI Dilmun C 26-3 to claim a well-deserved win in the DHL Bahrain Expatriates Netball League last night at Dilmun Club. 

The first quarter saw Sri Lanka claim a four-goal-lead when they ended it 7-3. 

Their performance only got better in the second quarter as the team managed to score another eight goals to take a 15-3 lead. 

The third and fourth quarters of the match saw Dilmun C fail to score. They conceded six and five goals respectively to end the game with a score of 26-3. 

Sri Lanka’s wing defence Shani Gunewardena claimed the player of the match award for her team while  goalkeeper Charlie Newman won it for Dilmun C. 

In another match, DHL Rugby B went down to BMMI Dilmun B. 

Both sides put up tough fight with the first quarter going in Dilmun B’s favour 7-6. 

The second quarter saw Rugby B battle for a comeback and they managed to take the lead finishing it off 11-10.

Dilmun B, however, bounced back in the third quarter to clinch it 17-15. 

Rugby B tried their best to narrow the gap in the score but a determined Dilmun B held them off to win one of the most competitive games of the season yet with a score of 21-18. 

Dilmun B’s Natalie Myatt, who plays as a goal defence, won the player of the match award from her team while centre player Marianne Ballard claimed it for DHL Rubgy B. 

The night saw another tough game between British Club A and British Club B. 

British Club A managed to end the first half of the game to their advantage with a score of 10-4. 

Their opponents tried to make a comeback in the third quarter but they could only manage to narrow the six goal gap to two and ended up losing 9-11. The fourth and final quarter saw British Club A seal victory 16-13. 

British Club A goal attack Suky Raju was named player of the match for her team while goal defence Tamsin Smith claimed the award for British Club B. 

The final game of the first round saw DHL Rugby A outplay BMMI Dilmun A. 

Rugby A took early lead in the first half and they managed to end it 20-8. 

The third and fourth quarter saw them ease to victory with a score of 26-11 followed by 31-16. 

Wing attacker Kianna Legg won the player of the match award for BMMI Dilmun A while DHL Rugby A’s goal shooter Ruth Daly claimed the award for her team. 

With the first round coming to an end yesterday, the second round of the league will kick off following New Year.

In the meantime, there will be a Tinsel Tournament organised at Dilmun Club early next month.
