New laws needed to stop animal cruelty

I URGE the relevant government agency’s help to save those poor circus animals left behind by the traveling circus. This is not the first time this same traveling circus left behind animals in Bahrain. They did it back in 2011 and again recently. Travelling circus is an appalling, outdated form of entertainment; it is in fact animal cruelty.

As another GDN reader mentioned in his letter on March 26, might Bahrain find a place for those animals in the zoo? Please help save them!

Additionally, I urge the government to impose tough penalties (both legal and financial). Actions taken to penalise this traveling circus will send a clear message to those who abuse animals and think they can get away with it.

In closing, I want to quote the following from Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948)

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way it treats its animals.”
